The coach will maintain, store and dispose of any records, including electronic files and communications, created during my professional interactions in a manner that promotes confidentiality, security and privacy and complies with any applicable laws and agreements. Furthermore, I seek to make proper use of emerging and growing technological developments that are being used in coaching services (technology-assisted coaching services) and be aware how various ethical standards apply to them.
· The coach will conduct themself to the highest levels of ethics, integrity, accountability and responsibility.
· All clients and potential clients will be treated with respect.
· All clients and potential clients will be treated with dignity.
· All clients and potential clients details will be kept anonymous.
· The coach will avoid discrimination by maintaining fairness and equality in all activities and operations, while respecting local rules and cultural practices. This includes, but is not limited to, discrimination on the basis of age, race, gender expression, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, disability or military status.
· Client’s confidentiality will be adhered to; except where permitted by the client in writing, or that which is required by law.
· Respect all parties’ right to terminate the coaching relationship at any point for any reason during the coaching process subject to the provisions of the agreement.
· The coach will not participate in any sexual or romantic engagement with the Client, professional and mindful boundaries will be maintained at all times.
· The coach will always commit to additional training/development and learning where needed.
· The coach will always act accordingly if faced with a potential safeguarding issue.
· The coach will not mislead clients or potential clients with false information; including the use of false titles, competence, and experience.
· The coach will state clearly the nature of the coaching agreement with the client and obtain a coaching agreement as consent of the professional relationship.
· The coach will not make claims to outcomes that cannot be guaranteed.
· The coach will seek written permission from any client they wish to use as a referee.
· The coach will endeavour to recommend the client to another professional if this would be deemed more appropriate for their needs.
· The coach will refrain from offering professional information and advice that is confidential, misleading or beyond the competency of the coach.
· The coach will endeavour to contribute to the field of coaching by enhancing public knowledge and perception of the field.
· The coach will respect all copyrights, agreements, work, intellectual property and trademarks and comply with all laws covering such areas.
· The coach will obtain the written consent of parents when coaching minors (someone under the age of 18 years).
· The coach will comply with all laws and by-laws of the UK and, if coaching clients based abroad, with the laws of the clients’ country.
· The coach will ensure that all advertisements and promotional materials – whether verbal or written – are legal, decent, truthful, honest and in compliance with the requirements of the UK Advertising Standards Authority.
· The coach will make a copy of this Code freely available to clients if they request it.
